Average response time: under 24 hours

A typical 25-30 in (630-750 mm) planetary floor grinder covers about 15-30 m² per hour at the first metal-bond pass (30/40# grit) on normal concrete floors. So grinding 100 m² takes roughly 4-7 hours per pass. Plan on 3-4 metal-bond passes plus resin polishing passes, which means a full 100 m² grind-and-polish job lands around 12-25 machine hours, plus edge work, tooling changes and vacuum emptying.
| Machine | Working width | Coverage at 30/40# | 100 m² per pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-head handheld / 10 in | 250 mm | 5-10 m²/h | 10-20 h |
| 2-head walk-behind (17 in) | 430 mm | 10-18 m²/h | 5.5-10 h |
| 3-head planetary (25-30 in) | 630-750 mm | 15-30 m²/h | 3.5-7 h |
| Ride-on (30-40 in) | 750-1000 mm | 30-60 m²/h | 1.5-3.5 h |
Numbers assume normal concrete, aggressive metal-bond disc, dry grinding with HEPA vacuum, and an experienced operator.
Here is a realistic time budget for a standard grind-and-polish on 100 m² of warehouse slab:
Total: roughly 25-35 crew-hours for a polished concrete finish on 100 m². For surface prep only (no resin polish), cut the resin step and you land around 15-20 hours.
Use the right tooling. A Diamond Trapezoid Grinding Disc (JOY-TP-R3) with triple round segments gives aggressive stock removal on medium concrete. For hard aggregate slabs, swap to a Double Bar Segment Diamond Trapezoid Grinding Disc (JOY-TP-B2) — the bar segments expose more diamond and cut faster on hard rock. For fine final prep, a Single Round Segment Diamond Trapezoid Grinding Disc (JOY-TP-R1) leaves an even scratch pattern for resin.
A: A 3-head 25-30 in machine with one operator typically finishes 80-150 m² per 8-hour day across the full metal-bond sequence. A ride-on can double that.
A: Nine times out of ten the disc has glazed over because the bond is too hard for your concrete, or the segments are worn flush. Try a softer bond or replace the shoes.
A: Wet grinding cools the disc and can extend tool life, but slurry cleanup and squeegee drying add 20-30% labor. Most crews stay dry.
A: Labour and tooling usually run €3-€8 per m² for surface prep, and €10-€25 per m² for a full grind-and-polish, depending on floor condition and finish level.
Productivity on a concrete floor is not about pushing the machine harder — it is about matching bond to concrete, starting with the right grit, and keeping tooling sharp. JOY TECH (Xiamen) supplies metal-bond trapezoid discs in 16# to 200# grit and soft/medium/hard bonds for every major floor grinder.
