For thick epoxy and coatings, PCD tooling or a scarifier is the fastest first step, followed by metal bond grinding to smooth the profile. For thin sealers, a coarse metal bond disc alone often does the job. Work in passes, keep the machine flat, and finish with a grinding sequence before polishing or recoating.
For machine-matched tooling, browse our WerkMaster PCD Tooling for Coating Removal range.PCD plates shear coatings off the surface with diamond cutting edges. They are the fastest option on brittle epoxy but leave a rough profile. Run them at the machine's recommended speed and check segment condition after each few hundred square metres.
After PCD, switch to a coarse metal bond disc (16# or 30/40#) to remove the PCD scratch pattern, then step down the grit ladder. This stage also removes any residual coating smears.
Vacuum thoroughly and inspect for spots the tools missed. Coatings in corners and edges often need a hand grinder or scraper. Recoat or polish only when the whole floor is clean and uniformly profiled.
A>Thin layers yes. Thick epoxy will load the disc and slow it down; PCD or a scarifier is better.
A>Done right, no. Use the lightest aggressive step that works and follow with grinding to restore the surface.
A>Typically 1-2 PCD passes plus 1-2 grinding passes, depending on coating thickness.
