Protect polished concrete during construction by covering it with breathable floor protection board (not plastic), taping seams, and prohibiting heavy traffic and metal-wheel carts on the area. Clean dust daily, and plan for a final 1500/3000 resin pass with fresh pads such as diamond resin polishing pads at project handover. Most on-site damage (scratches, paint splashes, tire marks) is fixable by re-polishing, but prevention is cheaper than repair.
Construction sites are hostile to polished concrete. The top threats: grinding dust from other trades, paint and epoxy splashes, metal-wheel carts dragging steel, acid and mortar drips, and forklift tire marks. Plan for all five before the first trade walks on.
Cover the floor in two layers: a breathable non-woven fabric directly on the polished surface, then a rigid protection board over it. Tape all seams with low-tack tape. Do not use plastic sheeting - it traps moisture and leaves water marks. Walk-off mats at every entrance. Sign the floor off before heavy trades start.
| Protection layer | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Breathable fabric | Stops dust scratching, lets floor breathe |
| Hardboard / MDF | Stops carts and dropped tools |
| Taped seams | Stops dust from getting under cover |
| Walk-off mats | Cleans shoes at entrances |
Sweep the floor daily with a soft broom - do not use a steel brush. Wet-mop weekly with neutral pH cleaner. Inspect under the protection weekly; remove any splashes immediately. A paint drip left for a week needs PCD stripping; wiped off immediately, it needs nothing.
At handover, plan a final polish pass. A spiral resin pad at 1500/3000 removes construction scuffs and restores the mirror. Burnish with a wool pad for the final showroom look.
For paint or glue splashes that did not come off, use a PCD cup wheel on an angle grinder to remove them before the final resin polish.
Use a fabric underlay first - plywood backing can scratch. Tape the seams so dust does not work underneath.
Fresh splatters: scrape with a plastic putty knife. Dried splatters: PCD cup wheel on an angle grinder, then re-polish the spot.
After all heavy trades are done and before furniture move-in. Plan 1-2 days for the final resin pass and burnish.
Protection costs USD 2-5 per sqm. Repairing scratched, painted, gouged floors costs USD 10-30 per sqm. Protect.
Polished floors are finished early but abused through the build. Cover, clean daily, and plan a final 1500/3000 pass at handover. JOY TECH supplies the resin pads and PCD tooling for final handover restoration; tell us your floor size for a touch-up kit.
