Average response time: under 24 hours

Polish concrete countertops with a variable-speed hand grinder, wet diamond pads from 50 grit through 3000, then burnish and seal. Work wet to control dust and heat, keep pads flat and moving, and dry-polish the final steps for a glossier finish. Seal with a food-safe sealer after the surface is clean and dry.
Grind: 50, 100, 200 — flatten the cast surface and remove form marks. Polish: 400, 800, 1500 — build the surface. Finish: 3000 or burnish — add gloss. On a hand grinder, 3-inch resin pads are easier to control on curves and edges. Keep each grit running until the previous scratches are gone before moving on.
The sponge polishing pads help reach the edges and small radii where discs do not fit.
After polishing, clean thoroughly and let the surface dry. Apply a densifier, then a food-safe penetrating sealer per the manufacturer's directions. Two coats are typical. Wax or a burnish can boost sheen after the sealer cures.
A: Not effectively. Hand sanding cannot reach the speed and pressure needed for a glossy concrete finish; use a variable-speed grinder.
A: Typically 2-4 hours per average countertop including grinding, polishing and sealing, depending on the cast finish.
A:Start wet for dust control and pad life, then finish dry at 1500-3000 for maximum gloss. Most resin pads are dual-rated.
